Getting Involved

Bring Martin Luther King Day to Your Town

Not all towns and cities embrace Martin Luther King Day so perhaps you could be the person to start it off. While you could join the festivities and volunteer work elsewhere it would be more beneficial to spread the involvement helping a wider range of people and communities. Despite the US being one of the world’s leading nations it still has a large percentage of poverty and lack of help for those who need it, so by becoming more active in your own community there is a great chance that the high figures of 37 million living in poverty and 50% of students not graduating from high school can be decreased.

Examples of the how far the word of Dr. King has spread and how it isn’t just something for one nation, but all nations, is the fact that the third Monday of January is also celebrated in Hiroshima, Japan. Under mayor Tadatoshi Akiba a banquet at was held at his office in honour of the message of Martin Luther King and as an act of unifying the people of city.
